The California Employment Development Department announced that the unemployment rate in California dropped to 6.9 percent in January, as reported by Temecula Patch, a community online news resource. In December 2014, the rate was at 7.1 percent, which was also lower than that of January last year.
The continuous slide in unemployment rate can be attributed to the addition of almost 500,000 non-farm jobs, resulting in a 3.2 percent increase year-over-year in the number of jobs. The entrance of previously-unemployed individuals into the labor force also contributes to the drop in unemployment rate.
